Time Dune

Time Dune

Lorís Simón Salum

Let your body submerge
Take a dive
Allow the fall
Until you feel touched by the sand
Deep in the profundities
Of an ocean that is yours

Here, weight discerns itself
It does not let you remember the surface
Not yet
For there are wonders to explore.
And you drift through this world
Every glide disrupting underlying grains of sand
That float in slow motion.

You also move sluggishly
Here, hours disguise themselves as days
Minutes exponentiate into hours
And seconds disband into eternities

Here, time is made of sand
Falling granules do not respect their appointed gravity
They wander, loyal to curiosity
Delaying their return to a final destination
Embodying the sway of water
Before claiming their home
Their exact placement
Where they will remain for centuries
Until they awaken
Under the pace of a future traveler.

You continue your stride
Oblivious to time
Barely recalling your name
Your silhouette dissolves amongst the blue and the green
Your movements imitate the essence of liquid
Ceasing to reflect
The person you once were.

Sand and water
Water and sand
The sand and the water
You surrender
You let yourself be consumed
You disperse amongst the folds of time
And into the vastness.

You live through the calling
Recognizing
A pending return
To the still point
To the final destination
To the place you will call home
Until a passing wanderer
Again speaks your name.
